Allen Gelwick

Advisory Board Member

In 1989, Allen Gelwick became the youngest SVP of a global insurance brokerage; eight years later, he took the company public.

By 2001, recognizing the inherent conflicts of interest within public professional service firms, he cofounded Lockton Houston and began their advanced energy and renewables practice. This evolved into a practice that now places more than $1.5 billion in premium into the marketplace annually. Combining his creativity, network, and 35 years of experience, he creates bespoke risk solutions for global onshore and offshore energy clients. Lockton, being the largest independent risk consulting firm in the world, provides him the perfect platform to do so.

Gelwick has presented at various conferences over the years, including National RIMS Conference, ASME International Petroleum Division’s™ Business Risk Management Symposium (serving as chair), Strategic Institute Seminars, Texas General Counsel Forum, National Ethics Conference, the Petroleum Industry Risk and Insurance Conference, EPNanoNet, and SolarPraxis 4th Annual PV Power Plants Conference.

He is a lifetime member of the Society for Values in Higher Education, is a past chairman of the Foundation for Arts and Cultural Enrichment, and was on the Board of Governors to the Houston Symphony from 2006-2017. Gelwick was the acting VP of POPS to the Houston Symphony and also part of the Houston Symphony’s Executive Committee. He is a board member and committee chairman of the NACD Texas TriCities chapter- the largest NACD chapter in the country. In addition to various local charity involvements, Gelwick is a national associate member of RIMS; director, Convergence Ventures; and director of Material Intellect, a material science informatics company.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.
