W. Thomas McGough, Jr.

President & Principal of East End Advisors, LLC

 Tom McGough is president and principal of East End Advisors, LLC, and an adjunct professor of law at the University of Virginia School of Law and the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.  From 2011 to 2024, Tom served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of UPMC, a forty-hospital integrated health system headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.  His forty-plus-year career has also included stints as a judicial law clerk, a federal prosecutor, a congressional investigator, and the head of litigation at a global law firm.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was recognized by Best Lawyers in America© as a leading practitioner of bet-the-company litigation, white collar criminal defense, commercial litigation, first amendment law, and appellate law.  

A life-long resident of Pittsburgh, Tom has served as the President of the Allegheny County Bar Association and as Chair of the Board of the Lawyers Advisory Committee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, WQED-Pittsburgh, Shady Side Academy, and Dapper Dan Charities.  He has also served as a board member or in leadership positions with numerous non-profits, including the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, Allies for Children, Catholic Charities, the Catholic Foundation for Greater Pittsburgh, the Extra Mile Foundation, Leadership Pittsburgh, Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, the Pittsburgh Child Guidance Foundation, the Pittsburgh Public Theater, and the United Way of Western Pennsylvania.
