Sarah Starkey

Chief Legal Counsel, Larry H. Miller Company

Sarah Starkey joined the Larry H. Miller Co. in October 2010 as staff attorney and now serves as its chief legal officer and corporate secretary. Prior to her most recent role, Starkey served as general counsel for Larry H. Miller Dealerships. In 2020, Starkey also served as interim chief human resources officer, helping to lead the company during the unprecedented pandemic that impacted employees across the organization and providing strategic leadership regarding all facets of people and culture, human resources, human capital management, and employee benefits strategies. In her current role, Starkey provides a broad range of legal counsel and strategic business advice to the Larry H. Miller Co., including corporate structure, board governance, mergers and acquisitions, state and federal compliance across several sectors, contract negotiation and management, litigation strategy, and risk management. Along with her legal work, Starkey is dedicated to empowering women and supporting the interests of disadvantaged and underserved young girls in her community. In that vein, Starkey was a founding co-chair of the Gail Miller Women’s Leadership Group, whose mission is to inspire and develop women professionals within the Larry H. Miller Group. Starkey also served on the board of trustees for the Girl Scouts of Utah and The Road Home for eight years. She served as the president of the Women Lawyers of Utah, where, under her leadership, the group organized quarterly cooking nights that benefited the residents of The Road Home and initiated an outreach Girl Scout troop for girls living in shelters. A native of Spokane, Washington, Starkey relocated to Salt Lake City in 2002 in conjunction with her employment at a local political research firm. In 2005, Starkey earned her bachelor of science in sociology, with a certificate in criminology and corrections, from the University of Utah. In 2007, Starkey earned her juris doctorate, graduating summa cum laude, from Southwestern University School of Law Los Angeles and was admitted to the bar to practice law in California. Starkey practiced law in Los Angeles, specializing in asset protection and wealth management, corporate structure and compliance, employment law, estate planning, real estate, and high-net-worth family law, prior to moving back to Salt Lake City.
