Mario Marte is an experienced finance executive and public company director, currently serving on the boards of directors of Best Buy Inc. FIGS Inc., and Pet Circle and previously having served as chief financial officer of Chewy Inc., a Fortune 500 company. Marte brings a track record of over 20 years of success growth and expanded profitability, leading business technology transformation and digitization, fundraising, and initial public offerings.

From 2018 to 2023, Marte served as CFO of Chewy Inc., the world’s largest pure play online retailer of pet products and services. In that capacity, he led the company through its successful IPO in 2019, the largest e-commerce IPO in the United States to date. Prior to becoming CFO, Marte was vice president of finance and treasurer for the company, where he led the finance team through three successful funding rounds (totaling over $250 million), and the company’s sale to a strategic private-equity buyer, which today remains the largest e-commerce private sale in the United States (and globally second only to Walmart’s acquisition of Flipkart in India). Marte’s responsibilities included leading the corporate finance, accounting, internal audit, treasury, mergers and acquisitions, investor relations, and all functional finance teams. As an operational and hands-on CFO, he partnered closely with the CEO on all day-to-day and strategic decisions for the company.

Prior to joining Chewy, Marte served as vice president of global financial planning and analysis for Hilton Worldwide, leading enterprise-level financial planning for the company as it prepared to join the public markets and, afterward, as it operated as a public company. He began his career as a management consultant at Accenture followed by eight years in various roles of increasing responsibility at American Airlines.

Marte has served as a nonexecutive director and member of the nominating, governance, and public policy committees for Best Buy since January 2021 and as chair of the company’s audit committee since June 2023. Since November 2023, Marte has served as a nonexecutive director for FIGS and as (interim) chair of the company’s audit committee.

Marte holds a bachelor of science in computer engineering from the University of South Florida and a master of business administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
