About The Event
Join the NACD Research Triangle chapter for an in-depth discussion of trends impacting companies in biotech, pharma, med device, diagnostics, ag tech and healthcare services.
2:30 p.m. – Registration opens
3:00 p.m. – State of the Life Sciences Markets, George Santo, Executive Director, Middle Market Life Sciences Commercial Banking, JP Morgan; and a fireside chat with Katina Dorton, director, Sonoma Biotherapeutics, and past winner of the NACD Directorship 100 award
It’s been a sluggish year for investment in the innovation economy generally, with inflation dealing a blow to new VC activity and the market remaining unfavorable for IPOs. However, conditions may be taking a turn for the better, as biopharma venture activity increased in the second quarter of 2023, and medtech is now showing some early signs of recovery. What’s more, the pent-up demand for exits may be easing following a few successful tech IPOs, and a long pipeline of biotechs poised to act.
Join George Santo, Executive Director for JP Morgan’s Middle Market Life Sciences Commercial Banking, to hear about the latest trends and analysis for life sciences activity, and the factors that may support or hinder growth in this dynamic sector in 2024.
Following his presentation, Santo will interview Katina Dorton, director of Sonoma Biotherapeutics, TScan Therapeutics and Fulcrum Therapeutics, in a fireside chat to discuss how current trends are impacting strategic thinking in the boardroom. Dorton, a past winner of the NACD Directorship 100 award, is a member of the NACD Research Triangle chapter board of directors.
4:00 p.m. – The View from the Top: A Conversation with Life Sciences Leaders – Jack Bailey, CEO and director, G1 Therapeutics; Todd Pope, partner Revival Healthcare Capital and director, Humacyte; Lora Allemeier, CEO, FreeFlow Medical; Meg Powell, founder and CEO, 501 Ventures, and director, TARGET RWE and Emergo Therapeutics, moderator
The life sciences vertical represents the extremes of risk and reward. Startups are trying to raise capital in one of the most challenging environments in years. Consolidation is accelerating for mid-sized companies, resulting in strategic realignments and new competitive landscapes. Meanwhile, rapidly evolving technologies may upend traditional models of drug discovery and commercialization, impacting not only biotech, medtech and pharma, but also the vast network of service companies that support the industry.
Join our panel of leading life sciences CEOs, investors and directors to discuss how they are approaching strategy and decision-making in volatile times.
5:00 p.m. – Reception
6:00 p.m. – Program ends
NACD Research Triangle Chapter is pleased to partner with the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, Longfellow Real Estate Partners, Gallagher and McGough on this event.
