Future of the American Board with Bill McNabb in Central PA

The Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) is honored to host former Vanguard Chairman & CEO Bill McNabb taking us on a journey through “The Past, Present, and Future of the American Board.”  Mr. McNabb will share his observations and perspectives from multiple vantage points in the corporate governance ecosystem.

After spending more than 30 years at Vanguard, one of the world’s most respected asset managers, Bill retired as Chairman & CEO in 2018 and currently serves on the boards of UnitedHealth Group, IBM, Axiom, Tilney Smith & Williamson, Vanilla, Altruist, and Nexii. He has pivoted from one fiduciary role to others – originally representing the interests of Vanguard’s tens of millions of fund investors to now representing the interests of millions of company shareholders on whose boards he serves. In each of these roles, a focus on talent, strategy, and risk (the title of the Harvard Business Review Press book that he co-authored with Ram Charan and Dennis Carey in 2021 [https://store.hbr.org/product/talent-strategy-risk-how-investors-and-boards-are-redefining-tsr/10306]) have been paramount.

And most recently, Bill co-chaired the NACD Commission that published The Future of the American Board last October. As you can see, Bill brings a treasure trove of real-world experience to give us a peek into the board room and how it continues to evolve.
