About The Event
Non-profit organizations vary in focus, breadth, complexity, and impact. Their boards vary in maturity, size, and scope.
Many non-profits have a more relaxed governance approach than for-profit organizations, yet they have stakeholders and commitments, and receive private and/or public financial support. Many have a fiduciary responsibility given their funding and program delivery. Prospective directors should thoughtfully examine non-profit opportunities with interest, but also with open eyes. This program will explain why non-profit boards need their boards to exercise appropriate oversight to aid them in achieving their mission.
This program will consider the benefits, opportunities, and risks in non-profit board governance.
Liability for non-profit board service has increased in recent years, and governance rules and scrutiny have tightened.
Non-profit boards are often the first step for directors looking to serve on private and public company boards. They can be a great opportunity to learn, serve, and make an impact. They are also a great place for aspiring directors to network with other experienced directors to find future for-profit board opportunities.
Please join us and our expert panel to learn more about:
• The risks and opportunities for a new board director in joining a non-profit board
• The governance differences between a non-profit board vs. a for-profit (private or public) company board
• The different types of non-profit organizations and their related boards
• Non-profit board service as a realistic pathway to private or public board service
• Some of the governance issues that arise in fund raising
