Glenn Votek is a seasoned executive experienced in leading sophisticated global financial-services organizations through strategic transformations including public offerings, management buyouts, corporate restructurings, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). A visionary leader with a history of driving financial and operational excellence and growth, Votek is respected for his calm, unshakeable demeanor and sound judgment grounded in deep financial, capital markets, operational, and governance expertise. He served as the interim CEO and president of Annaly Capital, a $100 billion diversified financial organization, from 2019 until his retirement in 2020. As CEO and president, he led the management team while working with the board to internalize the management of the company and commenced a business line strategic review. As part of his planned retirement, he served on the board CEO search committee to identify his successor and transition the firm’s leadership. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Votek served as Annaly’s chief financial officer from 2013 through 2019 during which he formulated and guided the broad institutionalization of the firm, including an enhanced risk governance framework, and improved the quality and cadence of financial reporting, disclosure, and analytics. He also championed the build-out of the corporate operating platform including introduction of advanced and emerging technology through a long-term IT strategy plan involving digital transformation and master data management and operational excellence, including the use of key performance indicators to measure results. Votek also has extensive regulatory affairs experience, having been involved with regulators overseeing the company’s broker/dealer and registered investment advisors.
Prior to joining Annaly Capital, Votek held several senior executive roles including as executive vice president and treasurer of CIT Group and president of the company’s consumer finance business. While at CIT, Votek was responsible for development and execution of financing and hedging strategies and played an instrumental leadership role in the company's initial public offering and its later transformation to a bank holding company, working closely with the US Federal Reserve, US Treasury, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC). Through the financial crisis, he devised a business transformation and restructuring strategy to rehabilitate the company’s balance sheet through a comprehensive capital management and financing plan, including a series of capital markets transactions and the successful build-out of an online bank platform that now provides the largest portion of funding for CIT.
Votek’s prior roles have also involved extensive M&A experiences, including the largest management buyout in financial services history during which he was a member of and represented the management team during negotiations and execution. A series of related financings received Institutional Investor’s “deal of the year” accolades. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards in recognition of his corporate finance and treasury management successes.
Votek is a Latino holding an master of business administration from the Rutgers Business School and bachelor of science from Kean College/University of Arizona. He serves on the board of directors of Annaly Capital Management, including the risk committee and the corporate responsibility committee, which oversees the firm’s environmental, social, and corporate governance initiatives. Votek is NACD Directorship Certified through the National Association of Corporate Directors, is certified in Climate Leadership through the Diligent Institute, and earned the NACD Cyber-Risk Oversight certificate from Carnegie Mellon. He serves on the board of directors of the NACD New Jersey Chapter, where he is a member of the audit committee, as well as on the Rutgers Business School Alumni Board for Learning Experiences (ABLE). He previously served on the board of directors of CIT Bank as chair of the board, the Hunterdon County YMCA as lead finance director and member of the CEO search committee, and the American Securitization Forum. He is also a member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA).
Aside from his work on the ABLE board, Votek is actively involved at Rutgers Business School serving as a guest lecturer on M&A and other corporate finance topics as well as a mentor to students. Votek is also affiliated with American Corporate Partners, serving as a mentor to military mentee proteges transitioning to civilian careers.
