James D. Powell is the managing partner of KPMG’s Minneapolis office. As an audit partner, he has served companies in KPMG’s Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Atlanta, Nashville, and Minneapolis offices and previously served as the office managing partner of Nashville (2015-2020). Powell was admitted to the partnership in 2005. He has more than 25 years of experience providing financial statement audits and audits of internal control services.

Powell is a board member of the KPMG U.S. Foundation Inc. and the Nashville Opera, as well as an advisory board member of the Vanderbilt University MAcc Program.

Powell is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a licensed CPA in Minnesota, Georgia, Tennessee, and California. He holds a BSBA degree from California State University, Fresno.
