Christy Morse
Director
Christine M. Morse is board chair of Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP), which is composed of two grantmaking organizations: Margaret A. Cargill Foundation and Anne Ray Foundation.
Christy has been board chair since 2006, and she served as the Philanthropies first chief executive officer until announcing her retirement from the CEO role in 2017, serving as CEO Emeritus until 2018.
Christy helped Ms. Cargill create the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies and has led the organization since its inception in 1995. The Philanthropies carry on Ms. Cargill's legacy by supporting areas she cared passionately about, with grantmaking across seven domains: environment, disaster relief & recovery, arts & cultures, animal welfare, quality of life, teachers, and legacy & opportunity. Christy leads each board in developing organization strategies, evaluating funding priorities, and assessing program effectiveness.
Christy brings 30 years of experience in business to MACP, with particular expertise in management and investment strategy. She held various accounting and credit-management positions at Cargill, Inc., where she was recruited as a management trainee upon graduation from Gustavus Adolphus College. At Cargill she began her career in internal audit, moving to a staff position reporting to the president of one of the company’s largest divisions.
She took a leave from Cargill to become the first visiting professor to fill the endowed C. Charles Jackson Chair in Finance and Accounting at Gustavus Adolphus College, where she taught courses in accounting, finance, economics, and management. She returned to Cargill as a vice president and controller with Waycrosse Inc., a financial advisory firm for family owners of Cargill, Inc. At Waycrosse, Christy worked with high-net-worth individuals, including Ms. Cargill, on a wide range of financial services ranging from taxes, to investments, to insurance.
The business relationship between Christy and Ms. Cargill became an enduring 15-year friendship. Christy was instrumental in helping Ms. Cargill realize her philanthropic goals as part of her financial and estate planning. Ms. Cargill personally designated Christy to lead Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.
Christy holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting, with a minor in psychology, from Gustavus Adolphus College. She also has held the certified credit executive and certified financial planner designations. She has served on the business advisory council and the board of trustees at Gustavus, and in 2016, the college honored Christy with its Distinguished Alumni citation. She currently serves on the Gustavus Women in Leadership national advisory board and was a Hall of Fame Award winner in 2019. Christy is also currently a member of the Presiding Bishop’s advisory council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
