Brett Lewis is the outgoing managing partner of Grant Thornton’s Kansas City office. He has 40 years of experience providing audit, accounting, and advisory services to public and privately held high-growth businesses scaling to well over $10 billion in annual revenue in a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, distribution, transportation (including rail), technology and software, protein, retail, restaurants, construction and engineering, real estate, and services.

During his tenure at Grant Thornton, he has served in various other leadership capacities including professional practice director and US Securities and Exchange Commission partner for Colorado, managing partner of the Denver office, managing partner of the Great Plains territory (Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and the Dakotas), and chair of the firm’s professional excellence committee. These positions, along with his vast client service experience, have allowed him to develop all facets of business management expertise including strategy, revenue growth planning, budgetary and operational oversight, talent management, and board communication, in addition to deep knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.

Lewis is currently the vice-chair (chair elect as of July 1) of the board of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and serves on the board of the educational foundation of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and advisory board for the University of Missouri School of Accountancy. He previously served on the boards of the Truman Medical Center Charitable Foundation, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, and the Kansas City Area Development Council (audit committee).

Lewis has a bachelor of science in accountancy from the University of Missouri and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants, and NACD. In addition to being a certified public accountant, he has attained the NACD Directorship Certification.
