Jesus Socorro is the managing partner in charge of BDO USA LLP’s Southeast Risk Advisory Services practice. His experience encompasses client service in a variety of advisory capacities around the world, including SOX 404 compliance; preparation for IPOs or other liquidity events; technical accounting; IT risk; and M&A transaction advisory and due diligence. Socorro has significant SEC experience with Fortune 500 and emerging growth companies in a wide array of industries, including domestic and international public offerings, M&A, and US GAAP and IFRS audits of financial statements and internal controls under PCAOB auditing standards. He also has significant experience working with PE-backed companies through governance matters, financial reporting, carve-out financial statements, internal control development and enhancement, business process improvement, and transaction structuring in contemplation of liquidity events.
Socorro, a CPA licensed in Florida, Colorado, and New York, served as a governor-appointed member, and 2020 chair, of the Florida Board of Accountancy and served and chaired various committees, including the Probable Cause Panel. He served on the Board of Directors of Veru Inc., a Nasdaq-traded, global, oncology biopharmaceutical company, where he was chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He is vice chair of the Board of Trustees of Palmer Trinity School, a Miami-based private, independent college preparatory school. Socorro is also on the Board of Directors of the NACD Florida Chapter where he serves as treasurer. He is an NACD Board Leadership Fellow and holds the NACD Directorship Certification.
A graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, Socorro holds a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Florida International University. He has also completed various leadership, governance, and finance executive education programs at Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton.
