Marwan Fawaz is the former executive advisor for Google and its parent company, Alphabet, where he provided strategic advisory and M&A support in the areas of telecom, broadband, home automation, media, and 5G mobile sectors.

He is also the former chief executive officer of Nest. In that role, he led a world-class team focused on reinventing products for the home, with complete solutions for consumer energy, safety, and security, and delivering on the company’s mission to build a home that takes care of the people inside it and the world around it. Under Marwan’s leadership, Nest had an incredible run. When he joined the company in 2016, Nest had three products on the market in a handful of countries. When Nest merged with Google, the company offered nine different category-leading products in the US, and had an official presence in 21 countries around the world. Nest’s revenues more than tripled during Marwan’s tenure, with remarkable improvement in product quality and expanding the product portfolio and user satisfaction.

Prior to Nest, Marwan was executive vice president of Motorola Mobility, where he served as the CEO of Motorola Home, overseeing vision, strategy, and operations. During his time there, he repositioned the business to streamline products and services, and in 2013, he led the transaction process to divest the business unit to Arris for $2.35 billion.

Before joining Motorola, Marwan was executive vice president of strategy and chief technology officer of Charter Communications. Earlier in his career, he served as senior vice president and CTO of Adelphia Communications, where he was responsible for the company’s overall technology development and deployment. He began his career at Times Mirror Cable and held engineering leadership roles at Continental Cablevision and MediaOne. He also served as an executive-in-residence at Pilot House Ventures and worked for Vulcan Inc., a Paul G. Allen company, as a technology investment analyst.

Marwan currently serves on the boards of CSG International (CSGS) and NACD Colorado. He is also a board advisor to Neural Propulsion System (NPS) and Yohana, a well-being services company.

Marwan has published several articles in the cable tech sector and participated in some of the early hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) broadband architecture standard-setting work. In 2009, he received the cable industry’s Vanguard award in technology, and in 2016 he was inducted to the 50th class of CableTV Pioneers. He is a longtime member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).

He holds a BS degree in electrical engineering and a MS degree in telecommunications, specializing in satellite communications.
