Aspiring Directors Workshop

This workshop is meant to provide ethnically-diverse individuals and women with an introduction to board service: what it is, what it requires, how to prepare yourself, and information on outside resources.

You want to be a corporate director, but do you know what you are signing up for? Join our ½ day “Aspiring Directors” workshop presented by the Colorado chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACDCO). Come learn what it means to be a corporate director, what the responsibilities and personal liabilities are that come with the role, how ready (or not) you are to serve, and how to start the board search journey. The program is part of the NACD Colorado’s initiative to spearhead ways to accelerate participation of under-represented groups on corporate boards. We have defined “under-represented” as including women as well as minorities.

A light breakfast will be served with the program starting at 8:00 a.m. There will be several activities during the day, followed by lunch, sponsor presentations and networking from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $50.

Our panelists and speakers are current or former corporate board members. The program will include:

• Governance 101: responsibilities and liabilities
• A “lightening round” Q&A session with panelists answering questions about board service
• A real life boardroom case study, with pre-read and small group discussions
• A board readiness exercise, and
• Help on developing a board search strategy
• A final wrap-up by our special guest, the Honorable Federico Pena, former Denver Mayor and U.S. Secretary of Transportation under President Bill Clinton
• An informal lunch, including sponsor introductions and networking opportunities
