Board Leadership Succession Planning

How does a private company select its own leaders? Survey data suggest that most private company boards do not have a systematic approach to plan for their next board chair, lead independent director and committee chairs. A lack of planning to fill a sudden vacancy, especially for the board chair, may cause disruption.  A formalized approach can foster attention to this key responsibility.
