M. Shan Atkins is a highly experienced corporate board member in both the United States and Canada. She is a certified director in both countries, holding the NACD.DC™ and ICD.D designations.

During her years of board service, she has served on 10 corporate boards (including 9 public) since joining her first while she was a C-suite executive. Throughout that time, she has chaired numerous standing committees on her boards as well as special-purpose committees, including those for CEO search, strategic alternatives evaluation, and activist defense.

Ms. Atkins is a Securities and Exchange Commission–designated financial expert, having started her career in public accounting before moving into strategy consulting and general management roles. She is a qualified certified public accountant with active registrations in the United States and is a qualified chartered accountant/chartered professional accountant in Canada.

Currently, Ms. Atkins chairs the audit committees at Darden Restaurants (NYSE: DRI) and  SpartanNash Co. (Nasdaq: SPTN).

In her not-for-profit board service, she is a veteran board member and chair of various global, national, and local organizations focused on adult literacy, environmental issues, performing arts, and health care.

Ms. Atkins has been an active member of NACD for many years, serving on the Chicago chapter board from 2012 to 2020 and most recently as a content developer for the NACD Directorship Certification® examination.

In her executive career, she was a partner in the consumer practice of Bain & Co. and a C-suite executive at a Fortune 50 public company before founding her own investment firm.
