Joseph Talmadge III has more than 20 years of experience advising on risk and insurance matters with directors and executives at publicly traded firms, as well as with general partners of private equity firms, hedge funds, and late-stage venture funds. He advises on all aspects of insurance strategy and global risk management. He has advised in health care, energy, education, food, media/entertainment, cannabis, real estate, transportation, and all sectors of technology, including semiconductor, software, hardware, autonomous vehicles, cryptocurrency, blockchain, drones, and biotech. He focuses on directors and officers insurance, self-insurance, and captive insurance strategies. Notable prior experience includes working with Broadcom (Nasdaq: AVGO), Align Technology (Nasdaq: ALGN), Instacart (Nasdaq: CART), and Anaplan (New York Stock Exchange: PLAN).

Mr. Talmadge is currently the technology practice leader at Heffernan Insurance Brokers, a privately held, global insurance brokerage with more than 1,100 employees. He serves as the in-house expert on private-to-public financing for directors and officers risk and has an active role in the firm’s digital transformation, technology investment, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Mr. Talmadge holds the NACD.DC™ and serves on the advisory council for the NACD Northern California Chapter. He also serves as an advisor to the Silicon Valley Directors Exchange and is a chief financial officer (CFO) steering committee member for the Silicon Valley CFO Leadership Council.

Mr. Talmadge has served on nonprofit boards, trade association boards, and municipal councils, including Silicon Valley Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West, San Francisco Graffiti Advisory Council, San Francisco Parks Alliance Council, and San Francisco US Green Building Council.

Mr. Talmadge holds a Bachelor of Science in information technology from Syracuse University School of Information Studies and a bachelor of science in marketing from Syracuse University School of Business Management.
