Hope has more than 20 years of leadership experience in both public and private companies. She is an industry leader in corporate governance and has extensive experience in banking, regulatory and compliance matters, M&A, public policy, litigation, risk management, payments, shareholder relations, executive compensation, and ESG. On December 2, 2024, Hope joined Ally Financial Inc., as Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Officer, where she will lead a newly created Legal & Corporate Affairs Office. She served as EVP, Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Discover Financial Services. Hope also serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Corporate Governance and is the Chair of its Policy Advisory Committee. She is the Chair of the Nominating and Governance Subcommittee of the Best Practice Principles for Shareholder Voting Research's Oversight Committee and an independent Board member of SmartBiz Loans.
Prior to joining Discover, Hope was EVP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Bank of the West and Corporate Secretary of BNP Paribas USA, Inc. Hope was named as General Counsel of the Year by Corporate Counsel as part of their 2024 Women, Influence & Power in Law (WIPL) Awards, and she was recognized for “Thought Leadership” as part of the 2023 WIPL Awards. Hope is an inductee into the “Corporate Governance Hall of Fame” and the recipient of the 2023 “William H. Avery Award for Equal Access to Justice” and the Corporate Secretary’s 2019 Governance Professional of the Year (Large Cap) Award. Global Proxy Watch recognized Hope in its 2019 list of ten people around the world who have had a breakthrough impact in corporate governance.
