Carey Oven is a partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP and managing partner of Deloitte LLP enterprise leader development and succession. In her role, Carey leads the intentional planning, identification, development, and selection processes for the top cross-business enterprise-wide leaders of the Deloitte US firm and board.
Previously, Carey was the managing partner of Deloitte’s Center for Board Effectiveness. In that role, she helped corporate board members fulfill their governance-related responsibilities and aspiring board members to position themselves for board service through a portfolio of innovative and immersive experiences, and eminence resources. She has supported leading-edge practices and forums for boards and the broader governance community and is committed to supporting excellence in governance.
In serving Deloitte clients, Carey is a specialist in risk and control services, with over 33 years of experience in providing risk assurance and advisory services. She has experience in internal and external audit, control assessment and assurance, enterprise risk management, forensic investigations, and compliance and governance processes. Her clients have been across industries, with a primary focus on the manufacturing sector. Carey previously led the firm’s national marketing offerings in internal audit and in regulation, forensics, and compliance.
Carey has served on Deloitte’s risk and financial advisory executive committee and management committee, as well as on the Deloitte US board council, finance and audit committee, and nominating committee. She currently sits on the Deloitte & Touche LLP board.
Externally, Carey serves as a board member for City Year Detroit and is an audit committee member on the Western Michigan University Foundation. She also recently served in an external community leadership position on the Campaign Cabinet Committee of the Southeastern Michigan United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Leadership Giving Society. Carey’s involvement in multiple nonprofit and voluntary community activities outside of her roles at Deloitte further demonstrates her commitment to making an impact that matters in all she does.
Carey holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accountancy from Western Michigan University, graduating summa cum laude. After beginning her career at Deloitte in 1992, she became a partner in 2002. Carey is also a certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, and has NACD Directorship Certification®.
