Sandra A. J. Lawrence’s current board and civic commitments include serving on the board, as compensation/talent development committee chair, and as nominating/governance/sustainability past chair of Evergy Inc.; as trustee and on the audit and investment committees of the Delaware/Ivy by Macquarie Mutual Funds; on the board and on the audit committee of Brixmor Property Group; on the board and on the audit committee of Sera Prognostics; on the national board of NACD and as past chair of NACD’s Heartland Chapter; on the board, as audit committee chair, and on the compensation committee of the Hall Family Foundation; and on the board, on the executive committee, as chair of the finance committee, and on the audit and investment committees of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

She is a former director of American Shared Hospital Services (where she served as audit chair and on the nominating/governance and compensation committees); Ivy and Waddell and Reed Mutual Funds (where she served on the governance committee); Westar Energy (where she served as nominating/governance chair and on the compensation committee); Recology (where she served as board chair); and Dunn Industries (where she served as organization strategy chair and on the audit committee).

Lawrence retired from The Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics after serving two years as CAO/EVP and 11 as CFO/EVP. Prior to her employment with Children’s Mercy, she served as CFO/SVP of Midwest Research Institute (now MRIGlobal); VP/Administration for Gateway; director of MRI’s Statistics and Economics Center for Regional Development; and president of Stern Brothers Investment Bank.

Honors include the Junior League of Kansas City’s Community Collaborator award, NACD’s Directorship 100, WomenInc.’s Most Influential Corporate Board Directors, being included on the 2019 Black Enterprise Registry of Corporate Directors, Savoy magazine’s Top 100 Corporate Directors, Ingram’s 250 Most Powerful Business Leaders of the Kansas City Area, the Harmony Humanitarian Award, the Central Exchange Woman of the Year Award, and the Outstanding Up and Comer Award. Lawrence is currently a member of the Executive Leadership Council.

She received her MBA from Harvard Business School, an M.Arch from MIT, and a bachelor’s from Vassar College.
